2012 Bajaj Pulsar 200NSBajaj | May 29, 2012
Pulsar bikes from Bajaj are quite a rage inside India. Now, Pulsar triple-plug 200NS, along with engine that is based from KTM Duke 200, looks to start altogether new chapter.
Bajaj Auto Ltd. is 2nd-largest 2-wheeler maker in India’s, selling more than 200,000 motorcycles a month. It is a house hold name for India and this bike maker operates from 3 sprawling facilities manufacturing, along with in-house center for R&D. At helm of this company, there is managing hands-on director, known as Rajiv Bajaj. This company recently had increased their stake in the KTM to about 47 percent post starting along with 14.5 percent share in the year 2007.
Pulsar is brainchild of Rajiv & all his efforts have been nursed inside this brand in to popular giant it is today having more than 150k Pulsars bikes taking to roads in the year 2010-2011. 1st Pulsar came out in the year 2001, & secret behind success of the all-Indian iconic motorcycles are pinned to the economic value; striking right balance between fuel efficiency and performance.
1st Pulsars, had more than shares for rough edges. Basics are always in the place, though, & R&D of Bajaj fast worked major turn around for introducing twin-spark digital ignition (DTS-i) Pulsars. It hasn’t been looking back since then and this company has been evolving on all the fronts. Bajaj is constantly making some minor improvements to their bikes, stealing sales march which has sent competition really scurrying. Bajaj has fought hard & crushed best in business that is sailing Pulsar voyage, including everything that giants of Japan Yamaha, Honda, & Suzuki have now thrown in their way.
200NS (Naked Sport) is naked, butch street bike. You can spot the styling cues from the Honda CB 1000R while viewing bike from the ahead. The front trendy mud guard gets bisected by black broad stripe above the alloy slim-spoke rims. It comes along with futuristic, broad front head light, along with chin-set dinky lights of city.
Bajaj clearly burnt mid night-oil in detailing this bike. Digital-analog instruments give warning shift flasher, along with tachometer boldly filling the center. Every thing is deciphered clearly, & fuel gauge too is offered standard. 200NS comes along with decent quality of palm grips, functional mirrors, nice levers set & top quality switch gear which only lacks indicators that are self-cancelling, as they offered on the earlier Pulsars.
Recesses deep tank give you abundant support of thigh for tall rider, scoops for extending forward for shrouding the liquid-cooled radiator of motorcycle. You can not miss twin-spar, broad frame that is exposed above engine bay of 200NS, & there is generous sprinkling of the alloy parts. Neat touch is under-slung, stubby single silencer. Good overall quality of build & fit-finish are offered standard.
Electric-start 2012 Bajaj Pulsar 200NS gives triple-spark-plug power plant is based on architecture of engine in KTM Duke 200. It is short-stroke 199.5cc (72mm x 49mm), engine of single-cylinder along with liquid-cooling, substituting double-overhead Duke cams for single over head cam shaft. KTM mill is fuel injected, and Pulsar uses carburetor.
Claimed output of peak power is healthy 23.2hp @ 9500 rpm, while NS makes about 13.5 ft-lb torque @ 8000 rpm. Fire twin plugs as the slave units following primary plug. The manufacturer has sweated for cram a lot in to the complex head; 3 spark plugs sharing some limited combustion real estate of chamber along with valves quartet & channels of liquid-cooling.
While we would have preferred at seeing 2012 Bajaj Pulsar 200NS having fuel injection, carbureted engine of 200NS offers adequate of throttle response & vibe-free, smooth nature. Power band is quite wide, along with Bajaj ExhaustTEC (resonance exhaust chamber) assisting low-end snappy performance. Gear ratios feel really matched to this engine, & I recorded indicated highest speed of about 87mph flat out in the top gear hammering in long back straight @ Bajaj’s Chakan track of test.
2012 Bajaj Pulsar 200NS accelerates along with gusto for bike of this displacement. Bajaj is claiming 3.6 seconds for 0-36mph dash & 9.8 secs from 0-62mph. Overall, the new engine of triple-plug is one step up for Pulsars. 6-speed gear box feels positive & light, & clutch feel is progressive and weighted.
One highlight to this Pulsar 200NS is the bold frame, steel, twin-spar type (which is also provided from Yamaha on YZF-R15) which encases neatly engine & leads to steel rectangular swing arm. Suspension consists of 37 mm fork & shock of gas-charge.
